River City Church is a place for Renewed Hope and New Beginnings.
River City Church is made up of people just like you and I. We are a Christ centered community consisting of people from all walks of life.
Though we all come from very different ethnicities, backgrounds, and experiences; we are all learning to live, grow, and serve together in accordance with God’s Word to share Christ’s Love and Mercy with a hurting world that is all around us.

2 Timothy 3:14-17 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.(NIV)
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. We believe that God has revealed Himself and His will for mankind through the writings that make up the Bible. We believe it was through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that the words of the Bible were spoken and recorded.
We believe in the One true God of the Bible. We believe according to the Bible that God created the universe and all that is in it. We believe according to the Bible that God created mankind in a perfect state; but that this perfect state was corrupted by mankind’s willful disobedience and rebellion against God.
We believe that Jesus was the Son of God. We believe according to the Bible that Jesus Christ was divinely formed by God in the womb of Mary. We believe according to the Bible that Christ was the ultimate extension of God’s love, grace, and purpose for humanity. We believe according to the Bible that Christ was without sin. We believe according to the Bible that it was through the form of Christ the Son of God that God revealed Himself in human form to mankind.
We believe that Christ willfully surrendered himself to suffer and die upon a Roman cross. We believe according to the Bible that Jesus endured the torture of the cross in acceptance of the punishment owed by humanity to God for mankind’s rebellious and corrupt nature. We believe according to the Bible that this act allowed for mankind to once again experience and communicate directly with God.
We believe Christ rose from the dead 3 days after his death. We believe according to Scripture that Christ rose from the dead as witness to His divine nature, His authority over death and hell, and to the promise of new and eternal life to those who believe in Him.
We believe that Christ ascended into Heaven in front of many witnesses and will some day return to complete God’s will for humanity. We believe according to the Bible that Christ will return, and humanity’s corrupt and rebellious nature will be judged by God. We believe according to the Bible that only those who have accepted God’s forgiveness and promise of new life through Jesus Christ will be spared this judgment.
We believe the Bible in it’s entirety, that nothing should be added or taken away, and that the Holy Spirit is working in and through God’s Church with the same empowerment and giftings as witnessed in the New Testament church and as is witnessed today.
The first time I heard God calling me into the ministry, I told Him I didn’t want to be a “Pastor”.
I didn’t want to be stuck in an office preparing sermons for Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night. I certainly didn’t feel I had the patience that is often needed in working with people in difficult church settings.
God began to broaden my understanding of what it means to minister the Gospel through the time my wife and I served in a North African Muslim country through Assemblies of God World Missions. Living in a country and culture where you may be the only people in your neighborhood who know it is Christmas Day is a powerful experience. The cultural lenses and traditions that color and shape our perspective of the Gospel and what it means to be a follower of Christ are stripped away, and you find yourself asking questions like, “Why do we do things this way?” or “Is this position Biblical or cultural?”
During itineration we had the opportunity to visit many different churches and communities in several different states. On the long car rides between destinations we would often reflect on the different aspects of the churches we visited- their ministries, vision, or lack thereof. We saw God working and doing amazing things in and through His churches. We also witnessed churches bogged down and blinded by tradition and nostalgia, as going through the motions was seen as faithfully plugging way!
In December 2010, after a year of itineration, it became painfully clear that the open doors that allowed us to work and minister in North Africa had been closed. We had no idea what God was doing or what He had in store for us. The previous years had been an amazing time of growth and learning. What were we to do with this? We prayed God would open the right door and that we would clearly see it. We were asked if we had ever considered church planting and if we would pray about it. We were asked not only to plant a church, but also to do so with the remnants of a closed one! A large intimidating door opened wide for us. After a long time of prayer, we walked through.
River city church is not your typical plant. The Sunday before Memorial Day in 2011, we began with fewer than twenty remaining individuals from the previous church. We felt God leading us to completely start from scratch and lay a new foundation before building.
The words from Zechariah 4:6 “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit” repeatedly came to mind as we prayed for vision and wisdom.
During our first month as a church we focused on prayer and fasting. We took the sign down and church name off the building, made the pastor’s parking spot available for visitors, canceled Sunday School, changed the service time to 9:00AM, took down all old decorations … you get the idea.
Over the next several months we looked at the different aspects of what is means to be the Church instead of playing church: what it means to be healthy and reproducing, to get outside the four walls of a building and into the community, to serve and not be served.
We could not have asked for a more loving and hard-working group of people. Their faithfulness and willingness to grab hold of the new vision has brought about the birth of River City Church (A Place for Renewed Hope and New Beginnings).
We are excited and humbled by how God is transforming so many lives and bringing His Life and Hope to this community!
Q: What makes River City Church different from other churches?
A: Our people! We are young and old, from different cultures and backgrounds, and we all look and dress a little different. We also see and recognize that the Holy Spirit is working in and through the Church of today through the same empowerment and gifts as the first followers of Christ experienced in the New Testament.
Q: Do you believe and teach the Bible?
A: Yes, we believe and teach the Bible in its entirety. We believe that nothing is to be added or taken away from the Bible. Its message of love and salvation through Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection on the cross is timeless and applies to our modern lives in every way.
Q: Are you part of any denomination or church fellowship?
A: We are blessed to be part of the Wisconsin/Northern Michigan Ministries Network of the Assemblies of God.
Q: Can I take communion at your church if I belong to a different church?
A: If you believe in Jesus as God in human flesh, his death and resurrection, and have chosen to follow Him; then you are a brother or sister in Christ and you are more than welcome to take communion with us.
Q: What about my kids?
A: Kids are a blessing to any home and even more so in our church family. Our loving and well trained teachers and helpers will take care of your children during the service. The children will be taught the Bible and Godly values in a clear and relevant way that children of all ages can understand.
Your first time with us you will need to register your children at the Kids table in the church entry way. You only have to sign them in after that. This helps us keep a safe and secure environment.
We encourage visitors to meet with the teachers before church and familiarize themselves with our classrooms. There are three different age groups. Preschool which begins at age 3 and kids church which is 1st-5th grade. We have a clean and comfy nursery for infants with a changing station and age appropriate toys.
Q: Will my child be fed?
A: We will be happy to give your infant or toddler a snack that you have provided. All liquids must be in a plastic bottle or cup and the snack must be finger foods. Please let us know of any food allergies.
The Bible was written over a period of about 1,500 years.
The Bible consists of the writings of over 40 authors from every walk of life, and was written in varied literary styles and forms. (Poetry, historical narrative, song, personal correspondence, memoirs, satire, biography, law, prophecy, parable, allegory).
The writings composing the Bible were written on 3 different continents (Asia, Africa, Europe).
The original texts of the Bible were written in three different languages; Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.
Though some religious books claim divine inspiration; the Bible is the only one that contains predictive prophecy. (Christ alone fulfilled over 300 prophecies through His life, death, and resurrection).×
